Luzern Laboratories NYFW 2012 Spa Event

Last night I had the honor of covering the Luzern Laboratories New York Fashion Week event.  It was held at the posh Hudson Hotel library that had been converted into the Luzern press lounge.  The room was full of beautiful people socializing, enjoying the products and services that were provided for the night. There were facials, a make-up station, nail spa ,wig displays and a fab bar. I spoke with Isabelle, a Luzern professional, she was doing oxygen facials and demonstrations for the evening. The oxygen facial and the products feel really good on the skin and smell tasty. There were many that were signing up for the demo's and to try the products for themselves. All in all it was a really good event and night and I also left with a nice bag full of goodies! Check out the event below.

To Bare or Not to Bare - Leg Wear

So, this morning I came across an article about  pantyhose, yes I said it pantyhose. Remember those sheer things you use to wear if you were to be considered a lady? Some of you may not remember pantyhose at all or you may not have worn them because they were for old ladies, grandma's or stuffy boring women.  I was kind of shocked myself to see this article when I went to retrieve my daily emails. I actually read the headline twice because I haven't seen or heard much about stocking for a very long time now. This article was about the return of  nylons! Silk leg wear! Really? There is a national campaign supposedly running for L'eggs hosiery their first in 15 years. I myself have not seen any of these ads however, who's to say that I would have really payed attention if there was one running on my television. I would probably zone out or not give it much thought. I mean when was the last time I wore pantyhose?...Unless it was to be...sexy. Even then I was still only a thigh high kinda girl not the whole shebang.  As Michelle Obama said herself they are just a bit too painful  and no longer bothers with them.

When I began to wear the bare leg it was somewhat of a different experience for me. I was accustomed to no bare legs ever! In Mommy Dearest Voice!  It was considered to be the proper thing to do, especially since I was Catholic school educated, belonged to Caribbean parents with a very old school Caribbean grandmother. When I did bare it all, I was shocked that it was actually alright , acceptable and liberating. I actually liked the thought of having the choice to cover my legs for fashion reasons and not out of necessity and social acceptance.

Now we have the choice to be bare what is your choice? Check out the article tell me your thoughts. I myself I would wear the sheer leg, nude or black for fashion reasons if it made my outfit pop in that way or because I woke up and felt like a sheer leg.  But either way it would definitely be my choice :-)
The End of Pantyhose?

Fashion for Rent and Borrowing Style

Some time ago while on the net I came across a site where you could rent fashion goods. Now, I was aware of the Bag Borrow or Steal concept http://www.bagborroworsteal.com/.  However, I wasn't aware of the various other platforms out there with the same marketing concept.  I started to really look into renting fashion type websites and realized that there are many to choose from. The first site that I came across was Rent The Runway  http://www.renttherunway.com/ is really a great site you have to sign up to enter but that's free. No credit card information is required at time of signing up unless you decide to purchase.

Once in there are you can browse their merchandise assortment which consist of RTW, formal, wedding, accessories, vacation and the list goes on. You can type in a search item, choose a category or shop by designer. The items are all designer pieces and are actually current and stylish pieces not throw backs... you know, the stuff no one wants. You can shop on your own, or if you need assistance you can choose to use their stylist to help you with your designer hunt. You choose two sizes they send you both and you can keep the items for SEVEN days! When done, you then put the items in the provided packaging and drop it in a mail box. That's it! They even take care of the dry cleaning for you.

Anyhow, the prices are too good not to use this platform for an event or just because I have listed a few items below. Check out the site, sign up and remember that there is an option out there for you to Rent The Runway.

A Fashionable Hunt - Vintage Shopping

Before vintage and thrifting became popular, acceptable, in style and trendy I was already shopping in thrift stores. I used to look down upon it when I was younger and never understood my mothers fascination with "thrifting" I just didn't get it. However, I was always intrigued by the interesting finds that my mother would come up with. As time went on I started going to thrift stores just for the hunt! I was addicted to spending little money and finding great items that no one else had while adding interesting elements to my wardrobe.

This week I went to the Salvation Army on Wednesday it was half off day! Yes, half off everything in the store. I went with one of my sisters and my mother and we cleaned up our cart was overflowing...Literally.
We each walked away with incredible finds. Check it out some of what I got.

Fur, Fur Everywhere Fur

Disclaimer:  First let me begin by saying that I am not a fur kind of lady. I love the look of fur but I opt for faux fur instead. I do not frown upon those that do choose real fur, we all make our own choices and I respect the decisions of others. I myself am on the fence/partial I do not agree with the processes used to obtain real fur. however, that is where I stand I respect your preferences so please respect my preferences.

Now, on we go, this season all I see is fur every where I turn in every store, every runway, people on the street and fashion ads. It is all the rage this season fur sure!  Fur, weather real or faux is being used in very creative and unique ways giving refreshed looks to old designs and concepts. In the stores I have come across faux legwarmers, over sized fur earmuffs, fur snoods, shawls and scarves.  Coats have many accents of fur and accessories also including handbags.

There are some really enormous and extravagant uses for fur this year. Many of them surprisingly cute and well done. I do believe that I will indulge in the fur (faux) crazed trend this year. It will definitely be fun and interesting to see how the fashion crown will incorporate these items into their stylish wardrobes this season.

Here are some pictures, check it out what are you going to add to your closet that is fur inspired this season?
